Notifications

Who this is for: everyone Applies to: Android · iOS · Web

What this page covers

Notifications tell you about things that need your attention — a mention in chat, a new announcement, a child checked in to practice, a race result, a payment reminder. They arrive two ways: in the in-app notification center, and as push notifications on your device. This page explains both, how to read and clear notifications, and how tapping one takes you to the right place.

Before you start

  • Sign in to Groupset.
  • For push notifications, allow notifications when the app asks — on web, a small Enable notifications banner appears instead of a browser pop-up (you can manage this later in your device or browser settings and in the app).
  • The notification center shows your own notifications only.

Reading your notifications in the app

  1. Open the notification center from the app (the bell/notification icon).
  2. The list shows your recent notifications, newest first. Use the All and Unread tabs to switch between everything and just what you haven't seen.
  3. Each notification has an icon and title so you can tell its type at a glance — for example a chat mention, an announcement, an attendance alert, or a race result.

What you should see: notifications appear in the list almost as soon as the event happens. The app updates the list live, so new items show up without pulling to refresh.

Marking notifications read

  • One at a time: tap a notification (this usually opens it too) or use its mark-read action — it stops counting as unread.
  • All at once: use the mark all read action (the app asks you to confirm) to clear the unread state across the whole list.

What you should see: the unread badge drops as you clear items, and the Unread tab empties when everything is read.

Push notifications to your device

With push notifications enabled, alerts appear on your device even when the app isn't open:

  • Android / iOS: an alert banner from Groupset.
  • Web: while the Groupset page is open, a small banner appears inside the app itself with a View action — the web version doesn't pop a system notification while you're using it.

These carry the same content as the in-app notification, so a chat mention or announcement reaches you without opening the app.

Tapping a notification jumps to the right screen

Notifications are shortcuts: tap one and the app opens the exact place that notification is about — for example, the chat message you were mentioned in, the announcement, the athlete's page after a group change, or the race results. A "someone cheered your feed card" alert opens the list of who cheered. Reports from coaches (like a review decision) route based on your role, so an admin lands on the review screen and a coach on their own submissions.

The app-icon badge

The Groupset icon on your phone shows a small number — your unread notification count (capped at 99). It keeps itself current: a push that arrives while the app is closed updates the badge too, and as you read notifications in the app, the badge drops to match. (The app-icon badge is a phone feature; the web version doesn't show one.)

Notes and limits

  • Which pushes you get is controlled by your preferences, both in the app (you can turn categories like chat messages or announcements on and off) and in your device's notification settings — see Your notification preferences.
  • If you sign out, Groupset stops sending pushes to that device.
  • On iPhone, if you first allowed notifications quietly (delivered without banners or sound), iOS won't ask again — the app shows a one-time tip pointing to your iPhone settings, where you can raise notifications to banners and sound.
  • Chat notifications respect the per-channel setting you chose (all messages, mentions only, or muted) — see Team chat.
