Your notification preferences

What this page covers
How to control which alerts Groupset sends you. You can switch delivery channels on or off, tune the kinds of alerts you receive, and learn what happens the first time you use the app on an iPhone or on the web. Your choices are stored on your account, so they follow you across devices.
Before you start
- You must be signed in.
- Open the menu and choose Edit Profile, then scroll to the Notifications & Preferences section. These are your personal preferences; team-wide delivery settings live in Team communication settings.
Step-by-step
- In Notifications & Preferences, set the Channels switches:
- Push — alerts on your phone or computer, including when the app is closed. Switching it off stops push alerts entirely.
- Email, SMS, and In-app — the other delivery options on your profile.
- Under Categories, switch the kinds of alerts you want:
- Announcements — team announcements,
- Events — alerts about team events,
- Messages — chat alerts, including mentions of you,
- Emergency — emergency alerts.
- If you change anything, tap Update Profile at the bottom to save.
What you should see
- With Push on, new items in the categories you left on produce an alert on your device.
- Turning a category off stops its alerts — the item itself still appears in the in-app Notification center, which always collects your notifications inside the app.
- The number on the app icon (the badge) mirrors how many notifications you have not opened yet, up to 99; it disappears when there are none. The web app has no app-icon badge.
Notes and limits
- Turning off a broad category silences the alert types underneath it (for example, turning off Messages also silences chat mention alerts). For finer control per chat channel, use the bell in the channel list — see Chat notification preferences.
- The in-app Notification center still works when push is off: open it anytime to catch up, and use Mark all as read to clear it.
- The Email and SMS switches are saved on your profile; today the app's alerts arrive in the app and as push notifications.
- Preferences are per account, not per device — set them once and every device you sign in on follows them.
- On phones, the app also schedules a reminder on your device an hour before each event starts, up to two weeks ahead. These event reminders are separate from the switches above.
- Quiet hours are a team setting, not a personal one — your team can hold back non-emergency notifications overnight. See Team communication settings.
On iPhone: "Notifications are quiet"
- If your iPhone is set to deliver Groupset's notifications quietly (no banner, no sound — they collect in the Notification Center), the app shows a one-time Notifications are quiet message with an Open Settings button. iPhone will not ask you again, so this one is changed in your phone's settings.
- To get banners and sounds back, open your iPhone's notifications settings for Groupset and turn them on.
On the web: allowing notifications
- The web app never asks for notification permission when it starts. Instead you may see a one-time-per-visit banner, Enable notifications to get team updates., with an Enable button — tap it to allow notifications.
- If notifications are blocked for the site, the app explains how to allow them in your browser settings and stops asking.
- In the web app, an alert that arrives while you are using the app appears as an in-app banner rather than a system notification.
