Strava sync

What this page covers
What to do when connecting your Strava account doesn't finish (including when the app shows an error even though the connection worked), when your rides — old or new — aren't showing in My Activities, when a synced ride is missing its detailed charts and route, and how to reconnect a disconnected account.
Common problems
Connecting to Strava doesn't complete
Symptom: You tap Connect with Strava, sign in to Strava, and the app doesn't show you as connected — or the screen spins or times out.
Likely cause: The connection step expired while it was waiting (these steps are short-lived for security), or an error interrupted it.
What to do:
- Close the connect screen.
- Start the connect flow again from the start.
- If it keeps failing, wait a short while and retry — the app has limits on how often it can talk to Strava.
The screen shows an error after you sign in to Strava, but you might still be connected
Symptom: You signed in to Strava and approved the connection, but the app then shows an error — even though you did everything right.
Likely cause: This can be a false alarm. A known quirk: the hand-off back into the app can fail at the last step even though the connection itself succeeded and your rides are already syncing in the background.
What to do:
- Go back to the Strava connect screen.
- If it shows you as connected (with your Strava name), you're fine — ignore the error. Your rides will appear in My Activities as they sync.
- If it shows you as Not connected, start the connect flow again.
Your earlier rides don't appear right after connecting
Symptom: You just connected Strava, but only some (or none) of your past rides are in My Activities.
Likely cause: Connecting starts a catch-up that pulls in your earlier rides — reaching back about a year — not just new ones. That catch-up runs in the background and can take a while, because the app is only allowed to pull so much at a time.
What to do: Nothing — keep the app connected and your earlier rides arrive on their own over the next while.
Rides not appearing in My Activities
Symptom: You finished a ride in Strava, but it's not in My Activities yet — or it appears later than you expected.
Likely cause: Rides sync automatically in the background, but Strava limits how often data can be pulled. On busy days, syncing can take its turn — waiting a while is expected, not a bug.
What to do:
- Wait a bit and check My Activities again — new rides arrive on their own, and there's no manual sync.
- If a specific ride still hasn't appeared after about a day, try disconnecting and reconnecting Strava (below).
A synced ride is missing its charts or route
Symptom: A ride shows in the list, but opening it shows no map, and no heart-rate, power, or other charts.
Likely cause: The basic ride entry syncs first; the detailed ride streams (route, heart rate, power) come next, and may not have arrived yet. Rides entered by hand (manual log) never have these details.
What to do:
- Open the ride's detail screen and give it a moment — the app fetches the detailed data when you open it.
- If the ride was logged manually, missing charts are normal.
A ride you deleted in Strava is still showing
Symptom: You deleted a ride in Strava, but it still shows in My Activities.
Likely cause: Groupset is meant to remove rides you delete in Strava, but that cleanup isn't working reliably right now — a ride deleted in Strava can stay in My Activities even after it's gone from Strava.
What to do: You can't delete a synced ride from the app yourself — only hand-logged rides can be removed. If the leftover ride is a problem, report it — see Getting help.
Segment times or PRs are behind your rides
Symptom: A new ride has synced, but its segment times and personal records (PRs) haven't caught up.
Likely cause: Segment matching runs in the background and can lag behind the ride itself.
What to do: Nothing — the segment times and PRs arrive on their own a little while later.
Your Strava account was disconnected
Symptom: My Activities stops updating, or the connect screen shows you as Not connected.
Likely cause: The connection to Strava was ended — you revoked it in Strava, or it was removed.
What to do: Open the Strava connect screen and connect again.
Notes and limits
- Rides sync automatically in the background — there's no sync button you need to press. New rides usually appear on their own shortly after you finish.
- Connecting also pulls in your earlier rides with a background catch-up; that part can take longer than the new rides.
- While Strava is limiting syncs, waiting is expected and doesn't mean the app is broken.
